Dr. Foth grew up in the metro Detroit, Michigan and competed at the local and national level with Hanoverian Warmbloods in the USEF, USET and USHJA hunter and equitation divisions. Dr. Foth received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree (Animal Science) with a minor in German from the Lyman Briggs Honors College at Michigan State University. Dr. Foth continued his passion for equestrian sports and competed at the collegiate level for Michigan State University in both english equitation and western reining.
Dr. Foth then attended the dual-accredited veterinary program at The University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Degree (Honors). During his 5 years in Scotland, Dr. Foth was awarded Scotland’s Strachan Will Trust Prize for excellence in equine clinical studies. He also received the bronze medal for show jumping at the national level. Following graduation, Dr. Foth completed a rotating equine internship in equine surgery, medicine, and ambulatory practice at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Foth received extensive experience with roping, reining, cutting, and western performance horses during his time in Oklahoma. The following year he completed a specialty internship in equine surgery and lameness at Mississippi State University. In 2018, Dr. Foth joined the team at Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists in Elmont, NY where he trained under world-renowned surgeons who pioneered fracture repair and upper airway surgeries in the horse. Given the proximity to Belmont Park, Dr. Foth undertook intricate upper airway surgery, complex orthopedic repairs, and advanced diagnostic imaging modalities with special attention on the Thoroughbred racehorse. Following his time in Long Island, Dr. Foth moved to Columbus for his residency at OSU and has extensive experience with surgery, sports medicine, and performance related injuries as it relates to the Standardbred racehorse.
